Global Skeptics in the Pub

David Almandsmith - 27th October 2026

The 3rd Annual 24-hour Global Skeptics in the Pub was held on International Skeptics Day, October 13, and it was FUN!

There’s a lot to unpack in that statement.

Yes, we’ve done this twice before. The first two “Global Skeptics in the Pub” events were part of the summer SkeptiCal Conferences, but this time we moved it to International Skeptics Day.

¿And why is October 13 known as “International Skeptics Day”? Dunno. ¿Why not?

¿Why 24 hours? That way, people could join in during their local ‘pub time’ regardless of where they lived. [The night owls and morning larks paid no attention to pub times, of course.] The event started when it was 7 PM in New Zealand and immediately people joined from 4 different countries.

Over the next 24 hours, more than a hundred skeptics joined in from over a dozen countries; some for an hour and some for nearly the entire 24 hours. And that was the raison d’être of the meeting: the exchange of ideas (and a few pet stories) by promoters of the skeptical movement around our globe!

We’ve had skeptics, humanists, and rationalists join in from New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong, India, Russia, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Czechia, Hungary, Malta, Austria, Germany, Belgium, France, Spain (mainland and Canary Islands), England, Argentina, Bolivia, Mexico, Canada, and numerous U.S. States. [We’ve also had a skeptic representing Türkiye, who finds it ‘friendlier’ living in England.]

¿Are we going to do this again? Damn straight! Join us on International Skeptics Day October 13, 2027.
