UFOs in Auckland?

Mark Honeychurch - 2 April 2024

We recently received an email from an ex-member who’s now living in the UK, asking if our members might be able to help out identifying an optical anomaly in a photograph his mother took in Auckland recently:

_I’m trying to find a reasonable explanation for these two unidentified objects in the sky.

I’m a kiwi living in the UK (Ex NZ skeptic member) from many years ago when Dennis Dutton was alive.

So anyway my Mum who lives in Auckland recently sends me a picture of the moon.

I receive the picture on WhatsApp and think it’s pretty neat so zoom in and find what appears to be two disc shaped objects in the sky.

On the one hand I personally believe we are not alone here on earth because of my own personal experiences.

But in saying that I’m a skeptic so everything else needs to be ruled out before I make any solid conclusions about this picture.

Anyway I thought it maybe of interest to some of you there to scrutinise. Maybe if you wouldn’t mind you could give me the opinion of your members there._

Accompanying the email were two photos - the photo he was sent by his mother, and a zoomed in version with the two anomalies circled in red:

Of interest to me was a third image he accidentally sent us, which did not contain any UFOs. However this other image, also taken by his mother, does also show some kind of graphical oddness - to the right, in the sky above the lit windows - it’s just not in the saucer shape we’ve come to associate with UFOs.

If anyone has any idea why a (presumably phone) camera would capture these strange shapes, please let me know and I’ll pass the explanation on. In the meantime, I’m going to assume that it’s the result of camera hardware/software being imperfect, rather than little green men visiting us at Easter to deliver chocolate eggs.
