NZ Skeptics Articles

A Note

- 1 November 1988

We recently received through the kindness of skeptic Malcolm McCleary information on the thought of Barry Long. It comes from the “Barry Long Centre (NZ)” in Auckland. Mr. Long is an Australian who left his career in journalism and PR “when he started to question the purpose of his life. He was made aware that the truth or spirit was entering him and directing his life.”

Barry Long “abandoned all he had known, flew to India”— in an airplane, we assume—“and lived in the Himalayas for 15 months.” Later on he discovered transcendental being and experienced “the realisation of the seventh level of terrestrial mind, the earth spirit.” This realisation, we are modestly informed, “‘is the rarest of all recorded realisations of consciousness.”

There are many Barry Long books and audio and video tapes available. Our favourite is the one entitled “How to Stop Thinking.” We think anyone who shells out $19.00 for the tape doesn’t really need it.
