The Rapture and the Julian Calendar
Paul Ashton - 13th October 2025
As a calendar geek, I was surprised to hear calendar conversion raised as a reason the rapture didn’t happen as predicted.
If they were calculating the rapture date using the Julian calendar, then surely they would have started with a 1948 date in the Julian calendar (which would have been 13 days before the date in the Gregorian calendar) and added 77 years to get a date in the Julian calendar in 2025. They could then have added 13 days to get a date in the Gregorian calendar (which would give the same date as if they started with the date in the Gregorian calendar in 1948 and added 77 years). The two calendars are 13 days apart from 1 March 1900 to 28 Feb 2100 (both years are leap years in the Julian calendar, but not in the Gregorian, which is the one we use).
Conversion issues can arise when comparing dates prior to adoption of the Gregorian calendar (e.g. 1582 in Italy, 1752 in Britain) with modern dates in the Gregorian calendar.
Of course there are rather more significant issues with rapture predictions, but this one piqued my interest.
