Sam Bailey

Dr Sam Bailey has been in the news this week, which involved in a court case petitioning the High Court to stop the New Zealand Medical Council from investigating her.
Sam Bailey is a prominent doctor who's been on TV in The Checkup, and has her own YouTube channel with over 300,000 subscribers, and co-authored a book Virus Mania which makes claims that the medical industry invents epidemics to sell more products. She's also a darling of Voices for Freedom, having appeared in their webinars on multiple occasions.
Interestingly, in researching this topic, I came across a AFP fact check page that reviewed a video that Dr Bailey had made about the PCR test for COVID (that contained false claims). At the time of that fact check (September 2020) she had just 90K subscribers on YouTube. That's jumped up to over 300K. As they say, there's no such thing as bad publicity!
Dr Bailey is no longer practising medicine in New Zealand - or is she? She is no longer registered with the NZ Medical Council so does not have a practising certificate.
She has posted multiple videos on her YouTube channel which have attracted fifteen complaints to the NZ Medical Council from registered medical practitioners, and members of the public. Some of these videos have now been removed, and moved to other more dubious, disreputable channels such as BitChute and Odysee.
She has now lost her high court bid to stay the proceedings of the council in investigating her.
It is certainly an interesting question as to whether somebody calling herself a doctor is practising medicine by posting videos on your YouTube channel which clearly identifies her as a “Medical Doctor, Author”.
She is arguing that she's posting videos in her own personal capacity, and that any action by the Medical Council would impinge on her right to freedom of speech.
As we've seen with Sue Grey, the lawyer, we expect that professionals should be held to a high and higher standard.
Speaking of Sue Grey, she seems to be changing her behaviour - maybe the Law Society investigation is having an effect. All of her posts on Facebook now seem to be suffixed with some disclaimer about how she's not posting as a lawyer, but only providing her opinion.
